Importing a file ftp to a FP site

Hi,

I am trying to help a friend who had a FP site built for him and the guy
who did it has gone awol!

I am a HTML code and Dreamweaver programmer so my my stuff there, but
only a little FP experience.

This is the problem.

He has a form that does not work due to incorrect FP coding which even I
can see. I can very simply write a form tag with a set of values and
ftp the form up in a matter of an hour or so but, can I do that?

Whilst he has given me the ID and pwd to ftp to his site, it doesn't
work when I try to open a web in FP.

If I could open this I would get the form going okay I'm sure.

As I cannot access via FP, can I write a form tag, paste the form tags
into the current page using ftp. This way the actual page created with
FP will be there but I will have just replaced the form tag code with
normal form code.

I hope I have made it clear..

Any advice on how I can get this matter out of my hair!!

Thanks

Rock

Thanks for the help..

Yes the extns are there.

What is the alternative if I cannot access the web site and he doesn't
have the site on his desktop where it was published from.

Can I ftp all the pages down to my HD then use FP to create the form,
then delete the pages on the web host and publish them back to the host
in FP?

If so, do I just create a new web and then iport the already made pages in?

Thanks

If you can't access the site in FP to edit, then most likely you will not be able to publish back
via FP.

If you use FTP to download the site to your HD, and the site uses FP navigation, themes, shared
borders, include pages, you may have re-apply / re-build these function before publishing back.

Are you sure you were provide with the correct login info for actually accessing the site via FP vs.
FTP, as some host have separate logins for FP and FTP.
Yes I asked him about extra ID's and pwds for FP and he said he was only
given the one set for his Cpanel which also works with ftp.

It is a framed site and while very simple I'm not sure how much it uses
the extns.

I can privately email you the url if you like so you can see the source
and maybe tell.

Thanks again

If you're using the frontpage form handler (the script that sends the email) then
no, you need to log on to the server/publish through frontpage using http:// not
ftp.

If you use a third party script e.g. asp or perl/cgi then yes you can ftp,
providing no other pages use frontpage components requiring the server extensions
(and most do).
