Imported Date field will not FORMAT-CELLS as a DATE

An imported text file has a date-time field. I am unable to get Excel 2003 to
recognize it as a date-time value. FORMAT-CELLS, PASTE-SPECIAL-VALUES-ONLY
have not worked.

Hi, have you tried using >>Format >>Cells to set a date
format?
