Hi.

When I go to export/save various .pst files, contacts, inbox, journal etc,
the action to perform box always opens up NOT showing EXPORT TO A FILE. The
next box does NOT open saying SAVE AS .PST. Very annoying, especially the
number of times I do it.

How can I get a default showing here that I actually want?

Can I even automate these tedious backups somehow?

Thanks
Dave

If you are using the export function to create a backup pst file from
another pst file, (ie you are NOT using Exchange Server for email) then
DON'T. Just make a copy of your pst file after closing Outlook. And yes it
can be automated.

Backups: Visit MS Outlook site and download/install the backup addin

Thanks for the responses.
I have downloaded the addin.
When I go to BACKUP and browse OPTIONS, I have only the ONE box called
PERSONAL FOLDERS showing, not the subdivisions of pst, for example School
contacts, Personal contacts, Email contacts etc.
How can I get these to choose which to backup??
Thanks,
Dave

Personal Folders holds ALL your Outlook data, email, calendar, tasks,
contacts, Journal (if you use it) in one file. Just select that...

Thanks, I probably will. It's just that the instructions I downloaded from
MS on how to use the add in showed different boxes for different parts of the
pst file which you could choose from ... as opposed to saving the whole lot
as one blodge. Then you could just backup, and if necessary reinstall [?]
SENT items, or whatever, rather than ALL the data. Sounds much safer doing it
in bits as well.

Thanks for your time
Dave

No its not much safer, doing it in bits.
The backup addin actually simply copies the selected data files to a
location of your choice.

With OL *closed* you can do the same yourself by simply copying the data
files.

If you used more than one PST, the backup tool will show each of your PSTs.
It does not show individual folders within a PST. The fact that Microsoft
included blank names in that picture of the "Backup Options" dialog in the
instructions is confusing you. Notice that the dialogue says "Backup these
personal folders files", not "Backup these folders".
