Import a word table to cells

Hi all
I have a word table with various data in the cells. I need to bring this
onto excel so I can sort the data as I need. The problem is that if I paste
the table to excel for some reason there is alot of uneven merges (if you
know what I mean) so I cannot sort the data. Is there a way to import the
table where one cell in the word table will equal one cell in excel ? Or
any other way around it.

Thnks for any help (word and excel ver 2000 btw)
