implement recursive search from within public folders

I use Outlook 2003 at work. Within Outlook if I'm in my private mailbox, I
can perform searches on multiple folders at a time, including recursively
searching.

However, we also make extensive use of Public Folders. It is a very poor
limitation of the product where I cannot perform a recursive search, or
specify more than one folder at a time for an advanced search.

I understand that sometimes a recursive search could result in a very long
search time, depending on the number of folders selected. But please
consider adding such a capability to Outlook.

(If anyone knows of a way to accomplish this now, I would greatly appreciate
any tips.)
