IMAP on Outlook 2007

I have a customer that is using Outlook 2007 to connect to a server viw IMAP.
They are getting an intermittent problem with unread message. The inbox
shows unread messages in blue and the user cannot see the message. When they
close outlook and open it they can see the messsages. It is intermittent and
happens on several of the clients.

Would be it possible to have a user try another email client to narrow
down if it's Outlook or the IMAP server?
