Imaging XP

A few days ago I reimaged my machine using an XP Pro SP1 CD. All I can say
is it was painful completing all the patches.

It took two nights, probably 3-4 hours per night and using a cable modem to
have windows update download all the patches and apply them.

Is there any way to speed this process up. I must have had to reboot at
least 5-10 times to finish all the patches.

Thank you

Pick up a copy of XP2 and install it fresh. $89.

Heck, it continues to work on my son's pc even with all the trash he
insists on installing contrary to my "expert" recommendations.

Well, you don't know what the term "imaging" means.

When you find out, image your current XP partition right now to external
storage. Never use it/restore it unless you want a clean install with all
the updates you've made at this point.

Yes. You should have started with SP2 then all other downloads would
have been minimal. What you did is long winded and tedious. From SP1
to other patches is a nightmare.

If your system didn't have any services packs then you needed only SP2.
If it had SP1, you still needed SP2.

Then you need about 35 patches (after SP2 in place). Perhaps you should
try this over this christmas!!
