I recently got a new scanner that I am still trying to get used to. I have
been trying to scan photos to use on my web site at different dpi settings.
I have tried 200 dpi up through 350 dpi--any higher takes too long to scan.
Then when I go to put them in FrontPage as a full-size image, the estimated
time to download is almost always over 30 seconds set on 28.8. In the case
of an article with more than one photo, it can be over 60 seconds. When I
re-size the image using the built-in HP Image Editor, I try to keep it
between 350 and 400 KBs--when I have tried to go smaller, the picture ends up
looking too small in FrontPage to use as a "full-size" image and/or when I
re-open it with the Image Editor, it just doesn't look right in their faces
or something. A really tiny picture wouldn't cut it as a full-size image.
How can I get usable images that don't take too long to download or that
won't make an article too long to download?

For the web, you only need to scan at 72 dpi with a maximum width of 640 pixels

200 dpi is normally use for faxing.
300 dpi and above is normally use for print work (desktop publishing, etc.)
