Image size changes from Photoshop to ppt

I've noticed every time we create art in PhotoShop and import it into
PowerPoint, the size of the image changes. Specifically, it seems that a 1"
square box in Photoshop becomes a slightly larger (about 10-15%) box.
Any ideas what causes this? Is there a constant (K) formula we can use to
reliably create images in Photoshop that can be brought into ppt at a
predictable size?

Jerry,

which version of PowerPoint do you use? In older versions (PPT 97 and 2000),
Microsoft used it's own "Microsoft Inch", which measured only 2.4 cm (while
the real world inch is 2.51 cm), to make conversion into metric system
easier.

In newer versions of PowerPoint (2002 and 2003) this was corrected.

Could that be the reason?

Jerry,

It's my thinking that powerpoint hazards a guess as to what size to display
a bitmap when you first insert it on to a slide.

At the end of the day, for on-screen presentations, the important thing (in
terms of quality) is the number of pixels.

The size an image comes into PPT at isn't all that important, or at least it's
not meaningful as a rule. PPT uses one set of rules to size images, Photoshop
uses another. Both are somewhat arbitrary.

The results you get will depend on the version of PPT, the file format you're
using when you save from Photoshop and possibly the Photoshop settings.

Some formats can carry inch/dpi info. TIFF's one. If you set the size you
want in PShop, PPT should respect it. Other formats don't have provision for
size (they're the ones that provoke a message about how you're going to lose
important printer information when you save.) There, you'll want to try a
couple sample images. Note the number of pixels (width, for example) in the
image and note the size PPT assigns it on import. Pixels/SizeInPPT =
MagicNumber. Once you know MagicNumber, you can work out the size you'll need
to make the image import at any particular size. DesiredSize X MagicNumber =
Pixels.

Thanks all.
For the record, I use ppt 2002 and photoshop 7.
Several indicated that image size in ppt wasn't important.
Sometimes, size is important.
Thanks again.
