Image off screen to right

Meem

Hi all, I have messed around with this problem forever and to no
avail. Would greatly appreciate any help you may have!

Check out this webpage from my site

http://tilesbymimi.com/adega_di_ricardo_portrait.htm

On most computers it looks great, but on the larger and wider screens,
the image of the mural (the man smoking the cigar) is way off the
screen to the right, and you have to scroll over to see it at all.

I have tried putting it in a table, centered - that is how it is now,
etc. but no luck.

I will be forever grateful if you can lend advice! Thanks, Mimi Ross

I have a 21" LG (lcd) wide screen and it looks centred to me ... whether I
make IE7 wide or narrow ... it moves and stays centred.

Someone who sees the image off screen says he is not in Windows, but
Unix and screen res is 1600 x 1200.

I know I can go to File then "Preview in Browser" but then my only
options is Microsoft internet explorer, with different resolutions...
All of those look fine to me as well.

Any ideas?

You can install Safari, Opera, FireFox, Netscape also to test.

The problem is the link bar style being used. This style will wrap in
Internet Explorer on Windows, but will not wrap in other browsers and
operating systems.

Typical links for this style are:

&nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;<nobr><A
HREF="http://www.tilesbymimi.com/ordering_information_tile_murals.htm"
TARGET="" STYLE="{text-decoration:
none;}">Prices&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Ordering</A></nobr>&nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;<nobr><A
HREF="http://www.tilesbymimi ... etc.

If the "rules" are followed, there is nowhere in this link bar for the
text to wrap. IE disobeys the rules and allows a wrap at the bullet,
other browsers follow the rules, resulting in a very long link bar.

This makes the page very wide, giving the appearance of the portrait
being off to the right - the portrait is centred in a very wide page.

The solution is to change the link bar - either use several custom bars
on different lines or use a style that does allow wrapping - the only
such style is the one using square brackets: [ linkGoesHere ]

Ohhhh... wow, I never would have figured that out!!! Thank you. I
split the link bar into 2 link bars and here is the response from my
friend who had to scroll way over before...

"It's better now - still off-center on the right edge, but the
pic is visible w/out scrolling."

I'd like to get it perfect of course, but don't know if there is
anything else I can do???

Keeping in mind that what you see on a Windows box using Safari may not be
what a Mac user sees using Safari.

Agreed, but it does give you some idea of what MAC users may be seeing.

Use File->Preview in Browser, and choose to preview in IE at 800x600.

Notice how both your link bars split into 2 lines.
Drag the edge of the browser until the link bars are each in one line.
This is the smallest browser width required to see the portrait truly
centered in the page in non-IE browsers. The page is too wide for full
screen in a screen resolution of 1024x768px, which most users have.
Also bear in mind that some users do not have the browser opened to full
screen.

In my opinion, the link bars need to be half their present length.
