image of a Fujisu drive to a Maxtor drive

Hello:

I want to ghost image my Fujisu drive(about 8G - just finished from a
fresh install of xp with all programs) and put that image(about 2G) to
my Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 drive 80G drive. I am still waiting for a
replacement Maxtor drive since it failed on me. PowerMax gives me a 6
digit error code.

I want to know if this is possible since I will be booting from the
Maxtor drive after the image transfer.

thanks in advance.

Yes, you just have to be a bit careful about the process.

You should use ghost off rescue floppy or the bootable CD.
You should do the clone from the Fujitsu to the Maxtor, dont
bother with an image file. AND THEN PHYSICALLY UNPLUG
THE FUJITSU for the first XP boot after the clone. That last bit is
absolutely crucial, otherwise XP will get seriously confused if it can
see both the fujitsu and the maxtor on the first boot after the clone.

Once XP has booted off the Maxtor, said that it has detected
new hardware, request a reboot then, after that reboot you
can connect the fujitsu again and do what you like to it THEN.

There isnt any need to use an image file, direct copying
of the Fujitsu to the Maxtor is much quicker than creating
an image file and then restoring it to the Maxtor.

You should give it a one digit salute.

Yes, you just have to do it the right way.
