Image names sorting in Insert Images ?

FP 2K - Server based web

How can I get the images in the "Insert Picture From File" window
(folder) to be sorted in proper alphabetical order ?

The rest of my system works correctly with everything sorted by name.
The sort fine in Folder View on the local system, in the Windows
Explorer on the local system, and in the Windows Explorer on the
server. Front Page just seems to mess up the sorting order in the
Insert Images From File box. This is a serious issue when you have
a site with a couple hundred images.

Thanks,
Bob

With the images folder open in FrontPage, click Name above the list of images.
It will resort in either alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order. Click
again to change it.

That fixes the images folder in folder view but it does not fix the
Insert Picture file window.

I've narrowed the problem down a bit. It works fine *unless* I am
going through an HTTP connection to the web server where the web
resides. Not only are the files in an unsorted order, but they have
"0" sizes or mod dates - it's like it does not get this information
when working on a web on the server. Since I am working on a web on
the server, the only way for me to (properly) get to the images is
through the web server. FWIW, I can insert them into the page just
fine and they work without an issue - it's finding them among 200
images in that folder in unsorted order that's the issue.

Before someone says "import the images first" - I already did. They
are on the web on the server and the only way to access the images is
by going to the server and drilling down - there are not on the local
system.

Thanks for any additional ideas,

Do you have the online images folder set to display in detail view??

Also what version of FrontPage??

Yes I do. I can click on the header for "name sort" but it does not
help. When I look at the details all the file sizes are "0" and the
modified dates are blank.

Everything looks fine in folder view with all the correct information.
Also what version of FrontPage??

FP - XP

by any chance did you have the beta version of 2003 installed at one time??

If so, we need to clear a couple of registry entries with FrontPage shut down.

Run regedit and go here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage\Explorer\FrontPage
Explorer\Settings

Right click Folder DetailColumns select Modify and clear the Value data entry
and then click OK.
Do the same for FilesDetailColumns.

Close regedit and relaunch FrontPage and see if it now works.

Tried it anyway... no effect.

Another interesting fact..if I browse (from Insert Picture) to
the same folder on the server via a mapped drive, it works just
fine. But, if I go through the web folders (the "proper" way for
my server based web) the files are out of order, the file sizes
are zero, and the dates are blank.

It's not my web server. I tested against my local Win2K server
as well as my ISP's Linux based server - same results. Files are
out of order for any server based web in insert picture. It's also
not specific to this web site as they all act the same.

FYI - Installing FP2003 on top of FP2002 (no other changes) fixed the
problem. So, it's definitely an FP2002 bug.
