Image Difference Engine: IDA runs & upgrades, but services r not g

(Repositing with different title)

My embedded device uses a smartcard. The smartcard works fine on the NEW
IMAGE which has XP SP2 & .NET FW 2.0 applied to the existing image. The
"Smart Card" service is dependent on the "Plug n Play" service, and all is
good.

After I've used IDA to apply the updates to my target image (an impressive 5
minutes), the smart card doesn't work, and the "Smart Card" service no longer
lists the "Plug n Play" service as a dependency.

The embedded image is only using 24 selected services - all the rest are
disabled (including the Firewall).

Any Ideas?

1) OK it seems no one has had errors with the IDA like I have. I don't have
a "multiboot" system as per the example in the idiff documentation. Does
anybody have any detailed instructions regarding setting up this multiboot?
Has anybody been successful using IDA without a multiboot system?? I'd really
like to know!

2) I want to upgrade my XPE SP1 to XPE SP2, and then apply the .NET
Framework 2.0. My current strategy (since IDA is not working for me) is to
silently install the SP2, reboot & then silently install the .NET Framework -
all WITHOUT USING the "XP Embedded SP2". DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY REASONS WHY
THIS WOULDN'T BE A SIMPLER OPTION??? I'm aware that I won't get the extra
features that come with XPE SP2, but I really don't need them. I already
have an "Emergency Application" that I can use to update anything I need to,
whilst not affecting my main program. HAS ANYONE APPLIED SP2 over an
existing XPe SP1 Image - as I have proposed above?

Thanks

Darren.
