Image caption on right of image

I have some images I need to insert on the page sideways and would therefore
like the caption to appear on the right side of the page.

Can Word 2002 do this?

Are you saying you want the image rotated to landscape and then want the
caption (also rotated) under it? You can insert a text box and rotate the
text in it. Or you can put both image and text in a two-column table.
Unfortunately, although you can rotate the text in a table cell, you can't
rotate graphic contents, so you still have to apply wrapping other than In
Line With Text in order to rotate the image.

Yes, you explain it better than I did. I would want to have the image in
landscape with the caption also rotated under it.

But I am not sure I understand how you indicate I should do that.

I also need to have the caption able to be picked up by a table of
illustrations.

Okay, if you need the caption to be picked up by the Table of Figures, then
you can't use a text box, though you could use a frame. In Word 2003 or
earlier, you can insert a frame from the Forms toolbar. Text in frames can
be rotated the same as in text boxes. The other option is to use a
single-row, two-column borderless table. In the right cell, you put the
caption, rotated. In the left cell, you put the image, change its wrapping
to, say, Square, and then rotate it. It won't actually be in the cell but
will be anchored in the cell. You can fiddle with the row height (i.e.,
image/caption width) and column width (i.e., caption and image height) until
you get it right.

Thank you very much Suzanne. You are very helpful as usual.

(You'll be glad to hear this is not the same project you previously helped
me with. That was a second edition of a book and it is now done and out in
print. The current project is is a genealogy scrapbook I am preparing for
my grandkids.)

I commend your efforts. Most of the books I've been preparing lately are in
the area of family history as well.
