It started about wednesday of last weekthe 24 of may I was burning a dvd and
then it stoppoed for some odd reason I tried to do a system recovery on
friday with no affect then I ran the win xp home edition cd and did the
repair process. After I did that I lost both my cd writer and dvd writer they
both open but will not show up on the computer.Plus when I restart my
computer I need to go through a long process of pressing the tab to go to the
other part then I press the esc button to load the windows. The odd thing is I
can't format any of the drives it won't let me.I admit I'm a novice With very
little techi knowledge. So if anyone has a way to get mine or any other
computer with this symptom please help I need it.
Thank-you for taking the time to read my plea for help :)

Dwight, did you do a Repair Install? Or did you enter the Recovery Console
and attempt to do a Repair? Try Doug Knoxs
fix. http://www.dougknox.com/ Select WinXP Fixes and in the Rt
Column scroll down to Restore Dvd/CD drives to
WinExplorer. XP will not let you format the drive that it's installed on.
If you are still having problems you may want to just
start over and do a Clean Install.

Thank-you Mr. Rich Barry,
I'm sorry that it didn't wotk though and as to the format problem I have no
idea why I can't do it no matter what I try I can't format it I know there is
a problem with the windows xp but me fixing it I don't think I can without
causing more problems.I was going to deleter windows but again I might cause
more trouble that in the end will cost more to fix.If you have any more
suggestions or sites that might solve the problem please feel free to post it
here.
Thank-you again for your time

First off try a repair install, you will have to set your BIOS to boot
the CD drive before the HDD. Make sure you have your product key handy
it should be on a sticker attached to your computer, if not then you
can recover your product key (if you can boot into windows using :-

The magical Jellybean key finder
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

If you cannot boot into windows and need to recover your product key
then use the utility on :-

Ultimate Boot CD for Windows
http://www.ubcd4win.com/

This CD will also let you burn your data to a backup cd.

Dwight,
If, as you admit, you are a novice, why the heck do you think you ar
capable of fixing anything on your PC? I'm a very good driver but
take my car to a mechanic (a trained professional) to fix anything
have the slightest doubt about.

Next time you have a problem with anything, reboot and try it again.
If it still doesn't work GET PROFESSIONAL HELP! Don't try fixing i
yourself, you'll only make it worse - as you've done here.

At this point, there is nothing we can do to help you. Someone wh
knows what they are doing has to physically sit down in front of you
PC and diagnose the real problems because your interpretation of th
symptoms isn't helping.
