I'm not receiving all the e-mails I'm being told I'm supposed to?

When I am checking my e-mail, I am getting a message, receiving 1 of 3 and
then receive 2 messages, but never receive 3 messages. The third does not
show up in junk mail or spam, it just never comes through. I hit
send/receive again, and it tells me there are no new messages on server.
Where are these messages going? I know I am not receiving all my
messages--as a test, I have seen my sister e-mail me an e-mail to the correct
address and it never come through. Is there any way to retreive these lost
messages, or have I forever lost them? I was waiting on an important reply
that I have never received.

Got a version for that Outlook? Do you have any rules? What type of
account?
