illegal instruction

When I try to run some old MSOFT Dos games installed on my new notebook PC, I get "NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction CS:c000 IP:359e OP: 0f 03 20 12 03". This is despite the fact that the games run well on my DELL desktop which has the identical WindowsXP operating system with SP2 and all current updates as on the notebook. Any ideas or fixes would be appreciated! I posted this problem two weeks ago and got no feedback.
