I installed openoffice initially. just installed word. wrote in word and
saved and it showed as saved in the open office format. also, use blackboard
for school and now can't open a word document because of the open office. do
i need to uninstall one of them?

Open Office has grabbed the file association. It has not affected your
documents in any way and they should still be capable of being opened in
Word, provided you open them from Word and not Explorer. To reset the
association to Word, reregister Word as demonstrated by Garfield.
