IEEE 1394

Is it necessary for me to go to buy an IEEE 1394 card
available for laptops and installed the concerned
software, after suffering my NEC laptop's (with 4-pin
IEEE 1394 port built in) no response when being connected
my Sony TRV-19E digital video camcorder via a firewire?
Looking forward to those experts' generous help or advice!
Thanks sincerely.

if you are just wanting to know howto hook you camera up you just need to
buy a "4pin 1394 converter" this will make the 4pin connector in your
laptop the larger connector.

It shouldn't be. My Toshiba notebook has a 4pin firewire port which is just
find with my Panasonic PC-DV800. Remember a 4 pin firewire port isn't
powered..... so you should ensure your battery in your camcorder is fully
charged or that it's connected to the adapter when you try to capture.

I have the same problem with a Toshiba notebook and a Sony
DCR-PC110E. Windows shows absolutely no sign of
recognising that a device has been plugged into the
firewire port at all. The camera on the other hand
recognises that there's a signal at the other end of the
cable by displaying the message DV IN on the screen.
However, if Windows (XP) cannot recognise the camera, it
similarly cannot capture any video feeds from the camera.

Do you have the camcorder turned on in VCR mode. It sounds like the
camcorder is trying to receive a signal FROM the notebook, I think what you
want is to send footage from the camcorder TO the notebook (of course
firewire works both ways). On my camcorder, there is a small switch to
change from Line In to Line Out. It's under the connectors. Look in the
manual, on my PV-DV800 it's really small and since I was capturing TO the
camcorder the other day FROM the VCR, I had to go online (of course I
couldn't find the manual at the time) and find out where it was! I'd never
captured from a VCR before, just sent it out the other way.
