IE7 slow in Vista

When is microsoft going to address the performance issue that is present in
IE7 when run on Vista ? I have an average broadband speed of 3.5Mbs ,however
pages take an eon to load. I have tried all the suggestions posted on this
site, i.e. start without add ons, reduce internet cashe, defrag in safe mode,
turn off phishing filter and switching off protected mode. Nothing seems to
work and my browsing seems to continue at a snails pace.
From reading other posts, in order to solve my own issues ,it is apparent
that this is a very common problem. PLEASE , PLEASE microsoft a fix is long
overdue.

does firefox go fast? www.getfirefox.com

also try this shell for IE7 www.avantbrowser.com if this goes fast then
its not the IE engine that is the problem...

also scan your pc for spyware and viruses using spybot search and destroy,
adaware (these 2 can be found
if you search on www.download.com) and microsoft defender.... and your
antivirus of course...

what antivirus do you have? Have you tried disabling the antivirus for a
little and then browsing?

Antivirus programs add a "web shield" that filters various stuff...

ALSO: people have reported that the stupid phishing function of IE7 slows
the browsing down..

DISABLE IT and see if that does anything

Tell me if any of this helps

This problem is increasing. Initially, even Vista Beta RC 1 and 2 were much
faster than full blooded Vista OS. WIE is much worse product than IE6
was (from Win XP) when comparing both .

Another problem is when you try to use Google search. WIE in this
ca is not good at all. Under Win XP all links to Google search are
working - but in when running Vista - you ca hardly say that
www.google.com is working.

Hi Tiberius,
Thanks for your feedback

I have tried disabling my anti-virus to no avail

I have tried firefox and found it to be just as slow.

However, Avant Browser does appear to speed things up

I would still however like to tweak repair IE7 to an acceptable
level as i prefer some of the functions

Any Idea's ? Thanks

Bring up your task manager and sort by CPU (which brings up the most active
programs to the top) and see what is taking all the resources. There may be
something that is causing your system to run slow and it just happens that
when you access the internet you notice it more.

Thanks Bill,

However no proccesses appear to be overusing the CPU
i have kept the task manager open whilst browsing different
pages that may use different add ons but as i have said
IE7 is slow even when started without add ons

Power off your router for 5 full minutes. Power down your PC. Power up
your router. Wait 2 minutes. Power up your PC. Sometimes there are issues
with the router and unless you cycle the power, the router still will
operate in a reduced power mode. This is only a guess, it has happened to
me a couple of times with XP and doing what I suggested fixed the problem.
I don't think it is the same problem you are having, but for a few minutes,
it won't hurt.

You mentioned that your started IE7 without the add-ons, etc.. but take your
browser back to the original settings and see if that helps. IF not, then
you might need to do a repair on Vista by booting from the DVD and doing a
repair. Now, if what I have suggested doesn't work, the you have one more
option that you won't like. That is to completely reinstall Vista. Do a
clean install, yes I know it's a pain in the ass, but if you have tried
everything else, there is no other option.

I worked at Microsoft years ago, and when I had trouble I called the
Microsoft help desk. If they couldn't solve the problem, nobody could. One
time I called and said that I had this weird problem and they said it would
take less time to backup all my data, and reinstall then it would take to
solve the problem which they couldn't figure out.

But hey, someone could chime in and have a simple solution, but how much
time do you really want to spend with this issue?

Hope that helps.

Not Me

When I login to my router, I have the option to 'reboot' the router and
change power saving features.
I guess it depends on the brand/model.
But I have seen Ethernet cables cause slow network connections.
Sometimes just unplugging/replugging made them work better.
I suspect oxidation on the contact points was disturbed/removed and allowed
a better flow of electrons...

It is NOT a common problem. My IE7 works fine; and download speeds are what
they should be!
