I have read things on this but I really need to find an Answer.....
No Mater what settings are in IE7 Tab Browsing Control are set to every URL
whether it is a link, a typed in url, a shortcut what ever it always opens in
the same tab.....Never opens a New Tab or even anew window even when REUSE
Windows is not Checked in the Advanced Tab of the Tools....
This just started for no reason, Have extinguished all my Ideas, knowledge
and strenght...and ready to go get drunk and forget putting this machine
together...
I have read everything on this subject and God only knows how many are
having the same problem but from all kinds of threads in at least the 6
categories I looked in...been reading for 2 hours and no answers....
PLEASE MS GODS HELP ME.....

Got all that and that all works fine but can you tell me why in IE7 does it
not make a new tab open when I click on a link in my favorites or when I type
in a URL in the address box? it open opens these in the focused Tab not a New
Tab
thanks for all your help....

I have found that this behaviour is different on IE7 on XP on my Thinkpad
laptop to my desktop computer running Vista. The Vista machine works fine,
but the XP one reuses tabs for clicked links. I think it works okay on my
Win2003 server as well.

Sorry, i don't have an answer, but you might have better luck in the IE
newsgroup:

You can also right click on the favorite and select open in new tab.

This operation is unavailable in my IE7 (tabbed browsing is enabled).

Hi Maco,

Try pressing "Alt + C" (no quotes) to see if that will open it for you
while in IE7.

Alt+C only seems to do something in the first tab and a blank tab. A
menu drops down on top in the middle of that page, showing me its title
and options to add or delete a start page.
Alt+C is in fact the keyboard shortcut for "Home".
FWIW, my IE7 is version 7.0.6000.16473.

Marco,

Look here to see if you have the Stars next to the Tabs in IE7. You
can open it by click on the Star or by pressing Alt+C. When you right
click on a Favorites Link from within there, you will have the option to
"Open in new tab". I have the same version of IE7 as you.

Yes, now we're getting somewhere.
Could there be a difference in behaviour because my IE7 is in French?
A French bug? ;-)

Here's a screen shot of clicking on the favourites in the menu bar and
then right clicking on the selected menu item:

And here's a screen shot of clicking on the star and then right clicking
on the same menu item ("Ouvrir dans un nouvel onglet" means "Open in a
new tab"):

Surely there must be an explanation as to why there is a functional
difference between the two operations. There is also a functional
difference between clicking on that star and pressing Alt+C.

I have tried these suggestions, but they did not help.

I suppose that there must be a difference. When I press Alt+C, it
opens the Favorites from the star area. Like you though, the "Open in a
new tab" only appears on the star area and not from the Favorites in the
menu bar.

OK, here are three screen shots to show the differences between clicking
the favorites in the menu bar, the star and pressing Alt+C.
Remember that my IE7 is in French.

Clicking Favorites:

Clicking the star:

Pressing Alt+C:

You can see that clicking the star and pressing Alt+C produces totally
different results.

How can this difference between your IE7 and mine be explained?

Marco

Thanks Brink...ALT+C opens the Favorites Center and Right Click in there is
Available....but not in the Text Menu in Favorites
