IE6 won't open links

My IE6 has just started playing up

I am running XP Pro with all patches applied.

Problem:

If I get an email with a link or sometimes with a link on a page that opens
a new window the browser won't open. It just sits with the egg timer
(indefinitely). If I press the 'X' icon I get a page not found error. If I
then press refresh the page displays instantly.

I have run and updated both Adaware and Spybot. Any thoughts?

TIA

Hi Colin,

Please try the steps in order:

* Inspect the Browser Helper Objects loaded in Internet Explorer and disable one by one using any of these utils:

Using ToolbarCop to remove the unwanted Toolband, Toolbar Icons and BHO:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/toolbarcop.htm

(or)

BHODaemon - disable unwanted browser helper plugins:
http://www.webattack.com/get/bhodaemon.shtml

If that does not help, try:

* Try IEFIX Utility - http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFIX.htm
[IEFix based on http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=281679]
