Since installing an update I'm having big problems. System Restore will not
open (not even in Safe Mode), and IE6 opens but closes as soon as you start
using. Most annoying. Have had to download Mozilla just to get on internet
but this doesn't access Microsoft sites.
Any help would be wonderful... thanks in advance.

Dave,

See if these commands help:

(Type in Start, Run)

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll

Ramesh..... thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I have run the
commands you have suggested, unfortunately the problems still persist.

Dave,

Disable 3rd party extensions in IE for testing:

1. Click Start, Run, type Control Inetcpl.cpl.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, click to clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
4. Restart Internet Explorer.

If that does not help, read below:

Reinstall Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP:
http://www.petri.co.il/reinstall_ie_6_on_xp.htm

When you're prompted for the updated system files:

Case 1: If you've installed a Service Pack (1 or 2) after you installed
Windows XP, mention the path as follows:

C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

Case 2: If you have a Windows XP Operating System CD integrated with the
latest Service Pack, simply point to the following path:

X:\i386

Where X:\ is the CD-ROM drive-letter.

If the problem was seen after installing the recent IE cumulative update,
then see the following page for a fix:
