IE6-SP2 can not open new window

When trying to follow a link that opens a new window nothing happens and IE
stops responding.
In safe mode however things work as expected.
I have followed instructions in kb281679 (and similar kb's) without any
result.
Even rolled back to SP-1 and up to SP-2 again just for good meassure...

Please help!

System: WinXP-SP2
Office2003Std
Norton AV2003 + firewall
Java RE 1.5.0_02 (works according to SUN's Java test page)

If safe mode works, then something running on your system is blocking new
windows, perhaps some sort of anti-spam or ad-cleaning software.

Also, Yahoo Companion causes this problem. Disable *all* internet related
third party software and test.

Yes, thats what I thought, but after shutting down just about every process
but explorer svchost and the other essential ones, the problem still existed.
Maybe some hidden sucker is causing it...

Thanx for your input. Will have go at it again tomorrow.
