IE6 SP1 Repair, Missing HKLM

S

Sharon

This is a continuation of my problem of not being able to
open a website melorheostosis.org. In looking over the
old threads I find that I had not done the Repair. I am
trying the procedure below, and when I get to the last
step I find that my Registry does not have any HKLM
entries, only HKEY. I am running with XP Home and IE6
SP1. Are these HKLM entries suppose to be there, and how
do I incorporate them? Thanks

To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow
these steps:

1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll
succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2
through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3,
replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

 Shdocvw.dll
 Msjava.dll
 Actxprxy.dll
 Oleaut32.dll
 Mshtml.dll
 Browseui.dll
 Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

If the problem is still not resolved, verify that the
following registry values are present and correct:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-
000000000046}
Name: (Default)
Value: IDispatch
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-
000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-
000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

If the problem is still not resolved, reinstall Internet
Explorer. If you are using the version of Internet
Explorer that is included with your operating system,
reinstall or repair your operating system.

Hi Sharon,

In most cases you don't need to verify that registry entries, as DLL
registration should create the required registry keys correctly. HKLM
implies HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Similarly, HKCU for HKEY_CURRENT_USER ; HKCR for
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

Sharon.

HKLM is an abbreviation for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

So for example HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes is what the first one
below is pointing to.

However are you sure this is the problem?

Try this link

http://206.139.180.51/ Did it work?

Have you done start>search for files or folders using the word "HOSTS"
without the quotes and no extension. If you find it try renaming it to
hosts.old or something and see if that helps. I didn't see the original
problem but don't see where registry editing is going either.

Thanks Charley, good information. Yes I have tried that
link. I and others have been working on this problem for
awhile now. View other threads at:

Any new insight into the problem will be appreciated.
