IE6 Problem

Can anyone help. I have a new PC and have just loaded Win
XP Home EN onto it. Everything is fine except one really
anoying little problem. Within Internet Explorer I have
two problems. One is that I can't download Winddows
updates, and the other is that sometimes I will click onto
a link within a webpage and it will just hang for example
from the Windows Update help page....

It never opens. I don't know whether these two things are
related, but they are really annoying.

Can anyone help?
