IE6 only works when AOL is working

Something has gone screwy. I have a broadband connection
that allows me to connect directly to the internet. But
now I can only connect to the internet, if AOL9.0 is
running. I have called Dell and looked up all sorts of
fixes on the Microsoft website. All to no avail. I have
removed IE6 and reinstalled. I have removed and
reinstalled AOL. I have even done a reinstallation of
Windows XP - upgrade. I did that before I knew about the
restore feature - @#$%@#. Does anyone have any ideas.

What happens is that IE6 will open up, but will not be
able to access any website. Also, if I go to Tools on
the toolbar and access Internet Options, I get nothing.

uninstall aohell and then reinstall ie and see if that
fixes. how about download firefox from mozilla.org and
see if you can connect with that browser.

After what I have been through with this I agree. I am
convinced that my recent conversion to AOL 9.0 had
something to do with this. I think that somehow my IE6.0
files have been corrupted. And, I have not really been
able to reinstall. And, that I am really using AOL 9.0
IE6 files to connect to the Internet when I click onto my
IE6.0 icon.

Previous IE version is included with AOL distributions. The AOL
browser runs on top of the IE technologies. AOL do not make their own
browser which IMHO is a good thing ;-) If you check carefully you will
find various MSIE files lying about on your C: drive and then either
re-install or you might be offered a chance to repair.

You can connect to AOL and then use a different browser firefox
mozilla is getting a lot of good press at the moment....
