IE6 not refreshing certain pages

Here's the problem with the browser:
Even though the settings have been changed to "Check for
newer versions of stored pages - every visit to the
page"... it's not doing this. Behavior is such that a
couple of frequently visited sites (with .asp)will not
refresh, no matter all actions taken (manual refresh;
delete all files/cookies; allow cookies for the site;
clear history; turned off all autocompletes, etc.).
If I visit a new site, I can see the "chatter" taking
place - however, when I visit these other sites above,
there's no interactivity. It's just not recognizing the
command to check for newer versions of the page.

Downloaded IE6 again, but the habit has returned.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hope so! - Marie

It is difficult for us to determine the right information to provide for
your problem with out more details, such as the version of Windows you are
using, if you have SP2, and the exact wording of any error messages you may
be getting. This will help us determine the proper information to provide
you to make the necessary corrections to resolve your problem. Please post
back with this information and we'll try to get your problem resolved.

I use the http://news.bbc.co.uk as start page. I can confirm Marie's
experience. It started when I installed XP Service Pack 2. (In typical
Microsoft manner, SP2 resets all your security settings in Internet Explorer
without asking you or warning you). When I set IE6 settings back to "Check
for newer versions of stored pages -> Every visit to the page", most sites
started to update again, but not http://news.bbc.co.uk.

Funnily, the java applet runnning "breaking news" on bbc's front page, and
showing today's date, updates correctly. So the news is yesterday's - at best
- while the date is today's.

When I manually click "Refresh", the latest news comes back.

This has to be a bug.

Thank you for your additional input on this issue. As you have probably seen
throughout the newsgroup, there are a good many folks who are having the
same or similar problems, some of which may be caused by the SP2 or some
sort of scumware on their system. That is why it is difficult to tell which
it might be without some details to work with. In some situations, making a
wrong recommendation for corrective action can create even more problems.

Your explanation of what is happening on the sites in your case is pretty
much in keeping with the majority of other problems with webpages after the
SP2 install. There may indeed be some bugs that have not yet been fully
researched, and some that may not be fixable at this point. That is why we
have to deal with these issues on a case by case basis. Thus, what works
for one persons problem may not solve anothers.

Thank you again for the information. :)
