While recently updating IE6 SP1 with patch 305217, I have
run into many unresolvable problems. When I execute IE it
max's out my cpu at 100%. I cannot close IE after that
unless I control-alt-delete and actually kill the
ieexplorer.exe process. The automatic windows update also
no longer works. Please help. I cannot find a fix for
this. I've tried uninstalling IE and even reinstalled the
OS which is W2K, even when reverting back to IE 5.0
because of the OS reinstall IE still experienced the same
problems. From there I've done several installs, repairs
and reinstalls of IE6. Please again help is desperately
needed. My next step is to install Netscape or Mozilla if
I can't get this resolved. And I'll have to resolve never
to touch IE ever again.

Check your system for "hijackware":

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the HijackThis Logs forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

[Many anti-spyware sites continue to suffer from a week-long DoS attack.
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page: http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]
