Help!
I started having big problems with IE6 crashing a couple days ago. I'd go
to a website (didn't matter what it was..happened on microsoft.com as well)
and I'd get a couple of pop ups despite my pop up blocker and IE would crash
-- it would either just close all the IE windows on its own or would give me
the message "sorry, but this program has encountered an error and needs to
close."
I ran Windows Update and I now have all the current updates, including
Service Pack 2 but none of the updates made a difference to my problem (not
that there were that many updates I needed). I have also scanned the
computer for viruses and have come up with nothing, except for adware that my
program can't seem to clean or delete and I wind up having to quarantine.
A few specifics on my system: I'm running Windows XP and McAfee Virus Scan.
I have a DSL connection. My pop up blocker is iHatePopups (by Sunbelt
Software).
I have the pop up blocker included with Service Pack 2 turned on and I
considered the possibility that it may be competing with my software I
already had, but there are still pop ups getting through, and a lot of them.
Also, when it crashes, I get a window that acts like a pop up (appears out of
nowhere) and with the message on it that it couldn't find the server. When I
started having problems, it just started out of nowhere - it was working fine
one day and the next it just ran amok.
ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
