IE6 changes file extension on download

When I click on a link pointing to a file called DATA.TMC which is 12 MB, it
works just fine on some computers. It prompts me to save the file and then
saves it as the original file's name -- DATA.TMC.

But on a couple of computers, I will click on the link and get the prompt to
save the file, but it will show the name of the file as DATA.ZIP. I can continue
and save the file, but it loses its original filename and is saved as DATA.ZIP.

All these machines are using IE6 with the latest patches.

I've looked and so far haven't found any explanation or fix for this. Does anyone
here know about this?

Thanks.

Would suspect something is wrong with MIME setting in the registry -
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type
