I'm running a Dell Inspirion 9100 PIV 3.2Ghz with XP Pro and SP1a which I
purchased recently. Sun Java VM was installed as part of the deal.

I am having problems with it NOT playing .mid files in web sites if the
<embed src> command is used. However it does play the .mid if the
<bgsound> command is used.

Maybe some sort of corruption?

Is there anyway of repairing the IE6 installation on Win XP Pro to see if
that will fix the problem.

Just used Firefox to see what happended and the audio played ok so no
problem with the website coding.

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks Kelly.

I ended up biting the bullet and had to do a re-format and re-install
everything. Took me most of today as some of my software is quite lengthy
to install. Had to re-build the laptop with the OEM version of XP and then
work through all the drivers that Dell supply. Then Office 2003, FrontPage
2003, SQL Server 2000 (Developer) and Visual Studio.NET 2003 plus some
assorted smaller programs.

Once I got my internet connection going again, I tested the webpage with the
audio background after each new software was installed and appears to be ok
now. Looks like some corruption occurred but I can't point it to any
particular software installation that may have caused it.

Looks to be ok now.

Most welcome, Chris and yikes! Sorry to hear of the extremes need. Would
suggest at this point paying mind from here on end and making notes. Keep
us posted and thanks for the feedback. :o)
