IE won't focus text boxes

One day IE decided to not let me type anything in text
boxes or text areas. The focus will just not go there. It
has also stopped displaying certain images but it may not
be linked. This kind of problem feels familiar but I'm not
sure what to do about it as I can't really reinstall IE.

Any suggestions?

Some parasite will cause havoc with the text box.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

Images/Pictures

Clear the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files (and delete
offline content.) It's often recommended that the Temporary Internet Files
(folder) be kept at
40-50 MB. Bigger isn't necessarily better.
If still no joy then have a look at this page for other issues.

Hey, thanks. Should have thought of spyware.

It's actually for a friend so I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Bye.

I tried everything suggested (ad-aware, clear cache, clear
saved forms) but the browser still won't let me focus text
boxes and also won't display PNGs although I'm not sure
whether the problems are linked. All this seems to have
happened after installing Incredimail.

I haven't lost hope. I'll give it a try.

Thanks a lot.

Carl, when you say "won't focus text boxes", are you indicating that you
can't get the cursor entry icon to appear in text entry boxes? If so, I have
the same problem, but it occurs only after using an IE session for a while.
If I dismiss that session then relaunch IE I get that ability back, but it
will fail again after a short while. I can Tab to the entry boxes and then
type into them when this problem occurs.
