I have been trying to fix ie on my main computer for over
a month. ie WILL NOT open any web links in a new window.
I have searched the KB, non of the fixes there worked.
I check the ie news groups, those fixes did not work.
I down loaded iefix, it dose not work.
I have removed all reg. keys, and files as said in KB
article-312451, and reinstalled ie, AND IT STILL DOSE NOT
WORK !!!! WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET IE TO WORK, SHORT OF
FORMATING MY DRIVE AND REINSTALLING EVERYTHING. I had to
use my old computer so I can get this link open in order
to post this message. If i fight with this mutch longer I
will be replacing all of my computers with ones that DO
NOT use microsoft based operating systems. I am NOT
impresed with microsfts tech support.

What happens when you try to open a link in a new window?

.
All I get is a frame that shows every thing from the
previous window. If the frame loads the tool bar, I can
click [stop]then [refresh] to load the page in the new
window. the only other way I can open links that open in a
new window, is to right click on the link, click on
[properties], highlight the url, rightclick on the
highlighted url, click [copy], close all open windows
exept ie, right click on ie's address bar, click [paste],
then click [go]. This work around dose not work on all
links, and is not an ideal way to browse the web

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (SFC /SCANNOW for Win2K or WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically
D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System
File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells
you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.
