IE - Unknown software exception

Hi All,

Recently when I browse certain websites, e.g. www.lowyat.net/v2, my IE
will prompt me an error message saying sthg like "Exception unknown
software exception (xxx) at location xxx. Then when I click OK, the IE
will close. I am very frustrated by this error as I can't surf those
websites anymore. The page will just show up for few seconds then the
error comes out and I have no choice to click on OK to close it.

Could anyone please help me to solve this issue?

Check for an invalid entry in your hosts file for those sites

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, D/Click and chose to open it with
notepad

here is a default host file

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Thanks Roberto for your reply. I edited my hosts file so as it only has
one entry 127.0.0.1 which points to localhost. However this still can't
solve my problem. When I open the website, I still got the same error.
Below is the full message that I got:

The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred in the
application at location 0x7c81eb33.

Click OK will close IE, whereas click Cancel will launch my Visual
Studio .Net to debug the error which I have no idea on how to debug it.

I notice that on top of the page there is yellow bar telling me to
install Macromedia Flash Player 9.0 to view the full content. I suspect
this error might be related to Macromedia Flash Player 9.0. As when I
browse to other pages such as Google Groups then I never get this
error.

One additional information is the page is working perfectly on the
Mozilla Firefox. I don't know what's wrong with my IE as this error
comes out only recently.

Please advice. Thank you very much in advance.
