IE starts process but no window

Tom

Sometimes, when I try to launch IE6, no window opens. The mouse changes to
an arrow with hourglass briefly, but the window doesn't appear. Opening
Task Manager shows that the IEXPLORE.EXE process is running, but nothing in
the Applications tab. Doesn't happen every time, but enough to be annoying.

I'm running XP XP2 on an older system ( Dell Dimension 4100). The only
recent change was replacing the monitor with a Dell flat panel. I've
scanned for viruses and spyware and all come up clean. Googling hasn't
found any solution.

Any ideas?

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

See if jusched.exe is there. (Sun Java update scheduler.)

I have suppressed it using msconfig to avoid this symptom.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't have jusched running. I did find that
I had multiple versions of JRE installed. I've uninstalled them all and am
starting over. Hope that helps.

Did you solve this?

I have been getting this problem ever since around 21/22 Feb and cant seem
to pin it down.

seemingly random failures of IE6 on xp sp1 to run leaving iexplore.exe
process running.

have run kaspersky av check, hijack this, spybot etc and can find no malware.

anyone help?
