I notice that different Internet Shortcuts have different extensions. HTML
is one of them.........but there are others with apparently meaningless or
various numerical exstensions (after the dot). Can anyone shed some light on
why this is?

Thanks,

Marc

That extension doesn't matter for shortcuts because all the shortcuts have a
hidden extension that is .lnk. So you can remove the words after the dot and
the dot itself without any problem.
