IE search problems

Brad Goldman

Anyone come across a possible fix to an issue with IE 5.5
or 6.0 where you go to a certain website the page can not
be displayed. I have noticed when ever I go to pages like
www.monster.com the page automatical goes to a yahoo
search page and will not load the correct site. Also when
trying to go to www.monster.com I noticed in the status
bar that it is throwing extra www is the address, for
example www.www.monster.com. I either go to the yahoo
search page or get a page can not be displayed message.

I have tried running adware 6.0, clean cookies, cache, and
history. Deinstalled and reinstalled IE. Then running the
fix program and still I get the problem. Any suggests on
how to this problem? I do not want to have to formate and
start over again. Please let me know.

I am having this very same problem, I tried installing the IE6 Service pack
and it did nothing!

Have you noticed that the repair tool solves the problem temporarily, but it
will come back some time later?

I thought I might have a virus, but all scans come up clean!

I've found another person with this problem, I'm not going crazy!

I hope someone knows how to fix this!

Brad,
Some program (usually spyware\parasite) may have overridden the URL prefix
setting?

Includes: Repair the corrupted or altered (spyware) HTTP prefixes
See section: Various Registry Fixes = "RepairDefaultPrefix.reg"

Open Regedit to the following locations and verify the below default
entries:
Start | Run (type) "regedit" (no quotes)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]
@="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
