IE resolving to wrong address

I

ikm

When i attempt to go to www.google.com, IE opens a
different site. I have tracked the error, Doing a nslookup
on www.google.com resolves correctly, but when i do a
ipconfig /displaydns the ptr and host records point to an
incorrect address. This is on a single workstation with a
dsl modem. I have done virus scans, reinstall ie, updated
windows (and many other things that didnt work)

Check your hosts file. Certain malware changes it, which redirects
your computer to bogus IP addresses for certain sites. It would be
just as easy to redirect the computer to an alternate Website as to a
bogus one.
