IE remember password problem

R

RonnieB

I've gone to Tools -> Internet Oprions -> Content ->
AutoComplete and checked the

Usernames and passwords on forms box, and the
Prompt me to save passwords box.

I then load a page which asks for my user name and
password. I enter them and select the Log-On (OK) button.

When I do this IE displays the "AutoComplete" prompt.
I select the "Yes" button, and my login completes, and I
have access to the web page.

However, on subsequent loading of the same page, the
password is not remembered. Any ideas why IE isn't
remembering it? I have another XP system that it works
fine on. I've tried to find differences in the way they
are configured, but haven't found anything.

TIA - Ron

Same thing happens 2 me but only on sites with very
sensitive data- banking,stocks, telephone,..

I guessed that website is coded so auto-password is
disabled. Only a guess tho. Password works 80% time.

Any advice given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS. Personal attacks, nitpicking & criticism
of anything but content will NOT be responded to. Those
posters should spend their time taking the test @

Have you done any tweaking with your Services? The
Protected Storage service must be enabled for
AutoComplete to work.

Hi Ron,
look here:-
Outlook Express keeps prompting for your password - Fix
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp oe passwords.htm

This fix also applies to Outlook, other programs that
store passwords in the Registry hives.

It also corrects some issues with Internet Explorer and
AutoComplete.

Thomas. Thanks for the input. Checking the "inline
autocomplete" didn't do it. As a matter of fact, my other
computer, (the one that remember password works on),
doesn't have "inline autocomplete checked".

JLS, thanks for the input. How do I check to see if the
Protected Storage service is active?

Click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Locate the Protected Storage entry
and double click it. It should be set to Started and Automatic.

No, that isn't it, Dilip but I appreciate your reply. He wants to be a
great help in the XP groups and I had suggested earlier on that he not use
CDO beings he will be a regular here. And he has suddenly retracted. Even
after the server issues.

Hope all has been well for you.)

All's well here; just keeps getting more hectic. Thanks for the concern...

Doug, thanks for your help.

The protected storage service is "started" and "automatic".
Problem remains. Guess I'll just have to remember the
password myself.
