IE quits working

On one machine I have XP Pro SP1 with all the critical updates. Twice in
the last week IE would not be able to find ANY site as though I had lost my
Internet connection but it is still on because Yahoo IM is still working and
I can ping any site (and of course my other machines on the LAN can browse.)
When I reboot, then it will work again, I first suspected a trojan because I
had my security down on my wireless AP, and some war driver got in (now I
have that fixed.) I scanned for trojans and found none on the whole
network. Then I suspected this new USB drive, but I can't seem to re-create
the problem.

This started sometime after the last critical updates.

Has anyone seen this problem or heard of problems with the latest updates?

Does this sound like a browser hijack?

Sounds more like my wireless network. It turns out I get hijacked by a
stronger signal. Apartments.
