IE opens unexpected windows.

Whenever I click on Internet shortcut (either from my Links bar or Favorites
menu) or enter a URL manually in the address field - IE opens a new window
instead of using the same windows.

Also, popups won't display properly. When I click on a link that is supposed
to open a smaller popup window, the windows is created, but the content opens
in a third regular sized window.

I tried or checked the following:
1. I checked the box in Internet Options, "Reuse windows for launching
shortcuts". That only causes IE to freeze and have to shut it down from the
Task Manager.

2. I've checked File Types settings för URL: Hypertext Transport Protocol
(and all those alike) but they are all correctly set.

3. I've tried using regsvr32 urlmon.dll, no change. (and several other dlls
as well according to:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281679)

4. I've also tried reinstalling my scriptengine.
Followed these instructions:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp

I'm using Win XP Pro SP2 with IE6. Since IE is working so bad I've installed
Firefox, but only after problems started.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried unchecking/checking the box?
(clutching at straws a bit)

If that is not the problem, then perhaps it is a toolbar you have
added?
Try removing extra toolbars, in particular, the Yahoo toolbar.

I don't follow your popup problem as to why you expect a "smaller"
popup window when you get one that is a third size.
Can you give the URL of such a link?
In case I have it blocked, just how small do you expect it to be?

Yes, I've tried it both checked and unchecked. Checking it causes IE to freeze

Got no extra toolbars at all installed.

Just take these pages as an example. When I click the reply button to reply
to your post the following happen:
-The original page remains the same, as it should.
-A popup window is created (with a fixed size and no toolbars) but no
content is loaded inside the window.
-A third full-size window with toolbars and menus are created with the
actual "Reply to" form.

Once again, thank you for your help and the time you spend on this. I really
appriciate it.

Sorry, I cannot take these pages as an example as I see no "pages".
I do not use the slow and quirky web interface and not many regulars
will touch it.
I use Agent newsreader to read newsgroups, though most use Outlook
Express.

Can you please supply the exact URL of a link I or others can click on
and use?

Heh, really had a problem finding an example, but here is one:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/warhammer/media.html
Click on Watch it now (any of them). In Firefox or a working IE, it will
open a smaller popup window (around 800x600).
But in my case - it opens an empty window (that has the correct size tho)
plus a normal window with the actual content.

Sorry, but I cannot help with your problem.
I see your empty window for a brief moment, then a slightly smaller
one with content while the blank one disappears. I don't see that as a
concern but someone else may.

Well that's the thing, it probably appears as it should for you (and like it
does on my other PC). For me (on this computer) any new popup creates at
least one blank page.
But it's not the main problem. The main problem is as I described in my
first post, everytime I enter a URL och click on a Internet shortcut it opens
a new window as well (and leaves the original one unchanged).
That combined with the popup problem I have at least 10 windows open with 5
minutes of use.
