IE locks up when accessing FTP sites

Steve

When I go to websites like ftp://ftp.compaq.com and try
to download files from within IE, the screen starts to
flash as if there's some kind of looping going on. And I
can't do anything until I bring up Task Manager and Ctl-
Alt-Del to shut down IE.

I'm sure it's something like my McAfee Virus Scan or
RoboForm software, or Zonelarm, or Tune-Up Utilities...

But here's the rub -- Opera works fine...

Any ideas?

My email address above is real -- it's so spammed up now
a few thousand more won't matter. But if you have any
hints, can you drop me a line there?

"You Cannot Download Files from an FTP Server"

What happens is, when I click on a link that in going to invoke an ftp
download, my IE6 starts flickering at a high rate and task manager indicates
that it is running the cpu at about 86 percent. I have to kill it to get
back to normal operation.

I can vouch that I have turned off Norton NAV, ZoneAlarm and ALL other
resident programs so that is NOT the issue. I've tried both Advanced
switches, checked and unchecked-
1) Enable folder view of FTP sites
2) Use passive FTP

Further, I can get to the same ftp sites using WS_FTP.

This is a real block and operational problem. I'm Running XP, IE6SP1 direct
on broadband, no router in between.
