IE incorrectly saving jpgs/gifs as bmps

N

Alot of times I try to right-click on a picture to save
it locally and the dialog window will only let me save it
as a bmp file. I know the picture is a jpg (or gif) since
I can right-click and choose Properties, which tell me
it's a jpg (or gif).

Is there some setting that got stepped on or do I need to
somehow reinstall IE?

Thanks!

Per another post, I tried deleting all "offline content"
files in the options menu in IE, but for some reason it
locks up.

Now I wonder if there is another problem. :(

How can I do a clean re-install of IE?

That happens when the Temporary Internet Files are too full. In IE click
Tools | Internet Options. Click Delete Files in the Temporary Internet
files section of the General tab. On the next window place a check mark in
the box to Delete all offline content.

If "locked up" means you get an hour glass mouse cursor that lasts a long
time, this is normal if you have a large cache and haven't emptied it for
quite a while.
