IE has error message and some sites shut down

In the last few weeks many websites just shut down. After
several
attempts sometimes I am able to load them. My internet
connection
stays up and is fine, but it's just the websites that shut
down (some,
not all). My ISP is AOL (which otherwise works fine), but
get the same
problem when I go through Internet Explorer. With IE I get
an illigal operation message which says: "IEXPLORE caused
an invalid page fault in
module MSVCRT.DLL at 017f:78015ca2. Registers:
EAX=0000a020 CS=017f EIP=78015ca2 EFLGS=00010246" etc....
I went to Knowledge Base but could not find this error. My
PC is Win 98, 128 MB RAM, 82% free resources

I cannot seem to identify what it is about certain sites
that shut down -- i.e., like if some
were Flash based, etc. But that's not it (I don't
think).It happens
with basic HTML sites too.

So far here's what I've done:
-ran anti virus
- cleared all my temp internet files/cookies
-fixed IE
-reinstalled IE
-ran defrag
-ran 2 spyware programs (adaware and spybot)
-downloaded updates from Microsoft site
-spent countless hours on the phone with AOL tech support

NONE OF THE ABOVE WORKED! :( . Any suggestions? Anyone
know why this
is happening and what's causing it?

an invalid page fault in module MSVCRT.DLL at 017f:78015ca2.

<title>KB298098 - Error Message: Explorer Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Mshtml.dll at 015f:70cbb044</title>

Please see my reply to both of you in the first version of this thread.

Note that the crash is not in mshtml.dll so that article is unlikely
to be a good match for this incident.

This article might be a possibility if the poster has recently installed
some third-party software which has caused some "DLL Hell":

<title>KB192123 - &lt;Program&gt; Causes Invalid Page Fault Error in Msvcrt.dll</title>

(MSKB Boolean search
Product: Windows 98
for: msvcrt*
)

In general the suggestion is to check the version of the module
and make sure it is compatible with the OS.
