hi, my IE has been acting strange. I'll type in
http://www.cnn.com or www.microsoft.com or whatever site
that I type in the address bar, and IE goes straight to a
Search page for Lycos on whatever site I intended to
visit. Sometimes after 3 or 4 tries of typing in the
address and pounding my keyboard does it finally go to
the correct site. It also is bringing up a lycos search
engine on the search tab next to Favorites in my
Toolbar....I never wanted that. Can someone please tell
me how to get rid of this Lycos problem im having.

lycos has been set as the default search engine

so if what you type in contains an error it goes to lycos

to reset to default...

go to your IE Tools menu and click on Internet Options, then the Programs
tab, and click on the Reset Web Settings button. Close and reopen
Internet Explorer to see your change.

to make the search results more sensible...

go to the advanced tab and look in the list for search
make sure the just display results in browser has a dot next to it

You may be the victim of the Lycos "sidesearch" Spyware parasite.

Run "Hijack This" FAQ and download: http://mvps.org/winhekp2002/unwanted.htm

_Pardon the Typo on the location of the "Hijack This" tool.

Use Hijack This for "complete" detection and removal of the
Spyware Pest - again, FAQ and download...
