IE Freezes when loading Microsoft's home page

On my brand new Dell Latitude D600 (same day I got it) with XP Professional
with SP2 installed, when loading the Microsoft Home page IE freezes. On XP
it seems that there is some animation when the page loads. The image moves
to the right. After it moves the page freezes. Bring up task Manager, CPU
Utilization is pegged. Other web sites seem to work fine. If I don't load
the home page, say go to the Office area there is no problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Disconnect the machine from the internet, *now*!

On another machine, see:

I don't think the system is infected in any way. This problem happened,
right out of the box. The machine has only been connected to the internet
behind a fire wall. It is my work machine and has Windows firewall enabled
and has all the critial updates installed. I thought it was some scripting
problem.

Thanks

If the machine was connected to the 'net, even for 30 seconds, before you'd
enabled the firewall, installed an up-to-date AV and had it running in
background, *and* had installed all updates, it may well be infected, Larry.
YMMV.

Well that's a bunch of baloney. It ONLY happens on the
Microsoft.com website, I had updated virus definitions on
my machine. Never had that problem until VOILA I
bothered to install MICROSOFT's DAMNED UPDATE to ITS
SOFTWARE!

GRRRR.

If it is any consolation, I have a Dell D600 that
experiences exactly the same problem. For me it started
about a month ago and I have had the machine for about a
year. The only web page that causes problems is
www.microsoft.com. If I go use support.microsoft.com,
there is no problem.

If anyone has a solution, I would love to know about it.
