Hi all
Got a strange problem here with first IE 5.5 and now 6.0.2800. on and ADSL
connection. Suddenly I couldn't open any websites in IE running an old
computer on W98SE.....worked fine with both Opera and Netscape........but
never figured out what was wrong though. Now on a brand new computer with XP
home edition and IE 6.....same problem ...same appearance....no websites
displayed. Tried with a modem connection and I could reach a few sites but
not all. Both Opera and Netscape works fine. Browsed through this group and
tried a few suggested settings but without luck.
Any suggestions about what would be the most possible cause for this "error"
would be highly appreciated

I am having the same problem. I received an email and clicked on a link and suddenly 55 browsers opened, all not finding the web site. Since then, I get this: //C:\Windows\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror. What could be causing this

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I honestl don't think this has anything to do with spywares or malwares at
all as this problem occured from start on the new computer. It came with IE
installed and I couldn't get it started so how could I get it in there.
But I'll check those links You posted and see where it takes me.....I'll
keep You updated

How to Configure Internet Explorer to Work with AOL as Your ISP
All of a sudden I can't launch I.E. 6 to connect to the internet UNLESS I
have first connected with AOL. If AOL isn't launched and I try to do IE6 I
get this:
C:windows\system\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm If you have AOL or had it then try
this fix.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=165474 (i. e. 4, 5. W95/98 5/12/2003)

From: "Michel Desrochers" in a previous post.
I have a workstation running Win98. The IP address is correct. Netstat
results are fine. Tracert to DSB server is fine. When I type in any url I
receive "The Page Cannot be Displayed". The error at the top reads:
"RES://C:/windows/system/shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#http://www.google.com

Solution: I finally find that my problem come from a bad deinstallation of
new domain (a spyware come with Kazaa). I downloaded the uninstall program
that came from their web site and then I can access to the internet back.
It was New Net a parasite. http://www.new.net/support/uninstall4_80.exe.
Yours may be different.
KaZaa and all it's parasites
New dot Net, NewNet

Why would I need AOL? ....I live in Sweden have a Swedish phone number and I
have a Swedish net supplier (telia) Can'r believe this would be the
solution. KaZaa or anything like that was never installed ....took the
computer right out of the box and tried to connect to the net without
success.

Finally got it......setting in IE properties/connections/LAN-settings was
set to use a proxy server. Instructions from my net supplier sais it should
be so. Unchecked it and... voila...things are back to normal.
