By default downloads should go to C:\yourusername\downloads unless you select otherwise....

That's unusual behaviour. IE should be remembering your last save location.
I'm having the same problem since going to Vista x64. It sends me to
the default save folder every time and I have to go through all my
folders to get to the one I want. When I'm saving a lot of things like
pictures, it's a real nuisance. Any help??
