IE Desktop Shortcut not showing. No idea why.

Freshly built machine via XP Pro with SP2 slipstreamed. It all works fine
except on HP D510 hardware.

Even though the it is already checked, i've tried checking & unchecking the
box through Customise Desktop, this does not have any affect. I've tried
unchecking, rebooting, re-checking, rebooting etc etc etc. Nothing is working.

I've even tried applying a Restore IE Desktop Shortcut reg hack - still no
affect.

Is there something that can be done (preferrably automated via vb script)
that can rebuild the IE Desktop shortcut? I'd prefer a proper solution and
not just an lnk file on the desktop.

I'm looking for something similar to the ie4uinit.exe which restores the
Quick Launch bar.

Try this but alter the path for XP to C:\Documents and
Settings\username\ion Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

You can read this:
How to Re-create the Show Desktop Icon on Quick Launch Toolbar
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q190/3/55.asp

or try this:

You have deleted the Show Desktop shortcut from the Quick Launch Bar.

You should have a copy in the System folder, normally
C:\Windows\System
Just copy "Show Desktop.scf" to C:\WINDOWS\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

That's only half of it. What about in Add or Remove Programs,
Add/Remove Windows Components?

<example select="Internet Explorer">
Description: Adds or removes access to Internet Explorer
from the Start Menu and the Desktop
</example>

I've got XP but there is no C:\Documents and Settings\username\ion Data\
folder. I assume the "username" is my name but "ion Data" is missing. Where
is windows explorer located?

Sorry... a bit got cut out. ("Applicat")

Mine is C:\Documents and Settings\Alan Edwards\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch and I meant to edit it
to:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch

I don't see the connection with your windows explorer question to this
thread but Windows Explorer is located at %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe
(usually C:\Windows\explorer.exe)
